Brilliant cinematically, and perfect musically. Each actor was at their peak lifetime performance. I don't think it could be more perfect.

what needles it down is that the original (the best imo) has NO CGI
all sets were hand built... later version were graphically enhanced...

Pick up the boxed set, has all versions and explains the whole production

A really good film noir ought to have a world-weary voiceover from the protagonist.

Anytime I don't want the narration, I put on one of the versions without...
