If you didn't know this, poodles, as a breed, are soft-mouthed retrievers. Friends of ours have a young moyen (medium-sized) poodle, and when we visit, he keeps trying to retrieve our Cairn, Ozzie.
Ozzie doesn't like it all that much.

IIRC, it was a Lab. When their cat got out they'd tell the dog, "Go fetch the cat," and he'd go out, find the cat in the yard, pick him up by the nape of his neck, and carry him back inside. It didn't seem to bother the cat at all; he just relaxed and let the dog carry him.
