(8,203 posts)my right arm..considering I do everything with my right hand, so I had lots of opportunity, spring cleaning (AZ), to keep it moving..not bad at all - second shot 3/24..coming up next week..hubby said he was fine..
You have to know, I am the biggest baby when it comes to needles..I have been known to faint..this time, it was no more than the feeling when you know you are being bitten by a mosquito..all that anxiety for a nothing burger...

(543 posts)Reminded me of Typhoid shot I had to get to start school in East Texas -- arm somewhat aching. Second shot. Nothing. Son's arm was painful after first shot, hasn't had second. Both of us have high pain tolerance.

(21,449 posts)different reactions are due to differences in individual immune systems and maybe to previous viral exposures, not necessarily to the covid virus, but maybe to other coronaviruses.

(2,018 posts)I had the Moderna, first shot so far. Day 1 - nothing. Day 2 - my arm felt like it had taken a vacation overnight, been in a car crash, and tiptoed back into place by first thing in the morning, with the level of soreness that feels unfair that you don't have massive purple and green bruises to match. Day 3 - nothing.
True Blue American
(17,984 posts)Second I had a lump that only hurt when I touched it. Delayed reaction, 3rd day sick, vomiting, weak. Couple of days, fine. Some had no problems!

(9,249 posts)have already had Covid.
50% or more of people who contract Covid stay asymptomic.

(13,920 posts)had a stronger immune response and are even less likely to catch covid, even asymptomatically.
Ive yet to see any hard evidence for either theory, but its my understanding the latter theory is currently being studied.

(20,186 posts)as bad as younger people because their immune systems aren't as robust. I'm 64 and I got first Pfizer on Saturday. No arm soreness, but I felt a little queasy and sweaty Sunday morning. Fine today.

(21,449 posts)multiple allergies, and therefore an immune system that is too strong for what should be harmless substances?
I am 71, had a sore arm and runny nose from the first Moderna shot. Second one still a few weeks away.
I am not allergic to anything in the Moderna shot, but I am allergic to the flu shot so I never get one, and am super careful during flu season. But, when I did get the flu, the virus always settled in my chest, triggering asthma reactions to the viral protein. So, I am nervous about reports that the second covid shot produces flu like symptoms, especially since it is modeled on the coronavirus protein.

(9,249 posts)You would have stronger immune response to Covid proteins if you've already had Covid.
There's no empirical evidence, but there it stands to reason
If the immune response to the second jab is stronger than the first (and it is), - and the side effects are more pronounced (and anecdotally that is the case) there should be a stronger immune response in those who have already been exposed to SARS-Cov-2.
quakerboy
(13,920 posts)I have been hearing that having had covid provides immune response roughly equivalent to getting the first shot in the two shot series, but being up front i have absolutely no idea what factual underpinning that may have or not have.
That said.. the two people I know best who definitely had covid.. had no immunization side effects. One younger, but tested positive test while having moderately strong symptoms (just below hospitalization required levels), and another older who was asymptomatic, but had many positive tests over a multiple week period while surviving a rampage in his nursing home that killed literal dozens.. Both now vaccinated with NO side effects. Not even sore arm reported by either.
And a nurse i know had fairly major side effects from jab 1 and only modest soreness from 2.
All of which to say I doubt we will know more than anecdotally for quite some time to come. If ever.

(13,920 posts)First shot, Nice half dollar size sore spot on my arm for about 36 hours.
Second shot had the whole shoulder muscle on fire for about a day, and then later came the exhaustion and "fuzzy thinking". And then all was well again. Most i've heard seem to get that the following day, mine lulled me into complacency, took a couple days to kick in, and then knocked me on my rear for the better part of two days.
No issues since.

(9,291 posts)Nothing, bud did find out I was watching the final of Creatures Great and Small on PBS. So, a minor anxiety attack. Unsure, if these two things, that did occur on the same day, were related in anyway.
