(8,758 posts)Release the strangling grip on the neck of nature, this planet will be amazingly healthy. Then God can sit back and marvel at his creation, after the cancerous parasite is abolished.
Many species of trees have NOT survived us. During 30 years teaching Forest Ecology at college, I have seen so many lose the fight against us. Not just harvesting, but insect and disease death that we transfer to biomes they should not be in. Kind of like us invading bat caves we should not be in.
We need so many John Muir's and Joyce Kilmers in positions of power to protect plant life. The NEW Interior leader is a great start. A little Native American respect for earth and plant life is the right direction. Trees will thrive without us. Without trees, aint gonna be no is.

(11,564 posts)That was so, so good. Thank you!
The tree growing out of the cleft in the rock looked very much like the Japanese plum trees that grow all over the place here. I can totally attest to their resilience and vigour.
When we moved into this house, many years ago, there was a stump of one right near the back fence. By the end of the following summer, a few suckers sprouted from the stump, and I decided to leave them and see what might happen. They turned into 5 stems of almost equal size, which is about the size of a small adult example of the type, and itthey grow in a very pleasing "bouquet" shape.

(7,530 posts)That loopy palm tree - I wonder if that was one bent by hurricane weather and recovered. I remember reading when Universal Studios built Seuss Landing, they wanted unusual trees and transplanted some palms that survived the hurricanes and did this specifically for the unusual shape.
