(7,611 posts)always 'the package store, never the liquor store. I always thought it had something to do with Prohibition.

(63,912 posts)at dinner. It's called F.R.E. and they have a Merlot that is delightful. I love wine but cannot drink the regular wine because it made me sick.

(63,912 posts)I've shown it to the store to encourage them to stock a wider variety of such wines. I hope their demand increases and they can expand their stock. I'd love a non alcoholic Prosecco, for instance. I wonder if I could just order it online...

That said, I'm with you! I hope they continue!
Don't know about ordering... If no alcohol no one should be subject to the rules about shipping to certain states.

(8,201 posts)I live along the shore, not too far from Rhode Island, and we do call them the packy. There's also one in town appropriately named "The Packy."

(42,770 posts)But, can't afford Stonington or Mystic. And my #1 requirement is walkability! Coffee! Pizza! Neighborhood tavern. Been away too long.

(8,201 posts)Very walkable. I walk to work, walk to the food co-op, walk to the coffee shops. We're technically a distressed municipality because our per capita income is low, but we are rich in community engagement, progressive activists and the arts. Our mill rate is high but our property values are still relatively low.

(42,770 posts)the same way. Like New London and Niantic and the Havens are interspersed between the wealthier shoreline towns of Madison, Mystic and Stonington.
One big plus in my mind is that in NL you can hop on a ferry to Block Island or Long Island too.
What's up with Groton? It looks really depressed there???
femmedem
(8,201 posts)Thames Street is the closest to a walkable downtown, but in general Groton has more strip malls, more EB traffic, less art and culture. Niantic has The Book Barn; New London has good, inexpensive restaurants and lots of artists and ethnic diversity. Niantic's downtown usually has more foot traffic--not snooty but New London's slightly wealthier sibling.
