6. Morning chorus

My best friend and co-faculty member taught an ornithology class spring semesters. Students had to be at the vans at 5:00 AM to travel to various forested sites at multiple elevations, here in the mountains, and grassland areas to hear and ID bird songs. At semesters end, they had to ID 100 bird vocalizations and male/females by site. After that class, 75 percent of students hated birds. 😀. These were college sophomores, with the desire to party at night.
I got to hate mockingbirds b/c they would nest in a tree outside my window and crank up at midnight for hours. Dozens and dozens of different vocals. Memorized most🥵.
I have a new lab puppy. She gets me up at 2-4–and 6 AM. The concert is at peak at 6. And, I can still ID most. They are amazing. Like sleep use to be. Thank God I am retired. Now mocking birds can go for it.
