I did. Last week. I learned that he had passed away eight years ago. His obituary said that he had three children and was revered by the community that he served. I'm happy that he was successful and loved by many. Fond memories of us together, a long time ago.

(115,732 posts)whose obituary I've looked for off and on but with no success. I've looked for some others who were friends or co-workers (but not lovers) who did turn out to be dead, rather to my surprise.

(7,947 posts)And came across the signed copy of a book by a friend who died years ago, after years of hostility that turned out to be the start of early alzheimers.
Hesitated a moment... but I'm not that ruthless.

(8,361 posts)I wonder about my friends from times past, whenever they come to mind. Some have made a mark and others have disappeared. I cherish the moments we connected, nevertheless.

(8,078 posts)I had 3 of those situations (never got that "game" or "swag" or "alpha" thing down). So, curiosity being one helluva drug, I looked them up and was flummoxed to learn each one had died young due to an untimely fatal illness.
That's coincidence on bath salts, imho.

(21,485 posts)and other people from the past. Some have passed away and others are still alive. I was just curious what happened with them over the years, but I'm not interested in reconnecting with the ones who are still living. I like the memories of how we were back then when we were more carefree. People change over time and reconnecting would taint the memories.

(3,170 posts)I met a beautiful young dancer more than forty years ago. We met for drinks, and I thought we had a good time. We made plans to go on a real date the following week.
I went to pick her up, and she stood me up! She didn't even answer the door. I was sure she wasn't home.
About twenty years later Google was developed, and of course I looked her up, if for no other reason than to find out how her showbiz career went.
She had passed away that same year. Had she died that very week? Had she gotten sick, or had an accident?
I never found out.
died many years ago from AIDS

(7,611 posts)Was a student for a semester in London in 1976. For some reason just recently I became a little obsessive and tried to look her up. I found an address and wrote a brief note with my email address. She had moved but the letter eventually was forwarded. What do you know? She remembered me fondly! She wrote back and we've been exchanging emails. It's really neat!
