(26,268 posts)The first time I visited, in 1972, you could walk, freely, around the whole area. I remember thinking, as the bus approached the site, 'That doesn't seem so big'. Then, when I was in the midst of all of those amazing upright stones, my entire perspective changed.
I went, again, after the barriers had been installed. Still magnificent, but not quite as spectacular as my first visit.

most likely from some fill brought in when erecting the barrier.
its still a magnificent site. In Wash state here we have an exact replica built on the high banks of the Columbia River Gorge overlooking the river as a WWl monument.

(26,268 posts)And a small piece of flint, found on the ground, at Flint Castle, in Wales. As someone born in another city named Flint, I figured the spirits wouldn't mind.
