Before somebody asks, "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood".
* Me, not movie idolater, either of trivia or "stars", am saying that PITT took over the whole movie. The SPAHN Ranch segment is the whole movie in itself.
* The theme of "Hollywood" self indulgence, watching self and others on screen, fixated narscissim.
* The subtle creepiness of MANSON looking fairly *groomed* and barely visible.
* The TATE girl infatuated with her screen
* There's a YouTube of how all the "REFERENCES" about what cigarette pack from other TARANTINO movies are featured - who cares
* Fun cameos Kurt RUSSELL & PACINO
* Yet, in period movie marquees, despite all the Dean MARTIN/TATE ones, there was the FUNNY GIRL one that *did* strike home, and it was TINY.
********** The only TARANTINO thing I saw before was something like Kill Bill, with the one image of a DAMNED NEEDLE being pounded into some drug addled CHEST. That's all I know.
**** Final Answer: Yes, this is a great movie.

We're just saying that was Pulp Fiction, Travolta wasn't in Kill Bill at all

(35,438 posts)Watch the opening of Inglorious Bastards. At the time, the actor Christopher Waltz was globally unknown, but Tarantino gave him the entire opening scene to his movie. He just let the man act.

(70,684 posts)his own insight to it and this spontaneously changed his mind.
Said that BEATTY had considered Sharon TATE for Bonnie/Clyde, 1 of 3 actresses.
That POLANSKI wanted TATE for Rosemary but waited for the producers to bring it up, which they didn't, and he recognized it would have been unseemly for him to bring it up. TARAN said he can't see anybody else but Mia as Rosemary.
Said didn't know Pulp was in the Drama category for Golden Globes, should have been in Comedy. Also that Django told the Globes (foreign press) that it was, indeed, very funny but not in the U.S.

(41,960 posts)Im conflicted about celebs novels becoming best sellers because theyre celebs, but who knows. Maybe he can write. I agree about the film, and all his films, though some are challenging to watch. Pulp Fiction is brilliant.

(70,684 posts)I thought that this paperback novelization was another one of his references to yesteryear, like, wasn't that sort of done as follow-ups for comic book type movies? (I feel the need to say I won't be looking at the novel.) I will say I LOLed over your take on TARANTINO's writing skills - like doesn't he write all his movies, and he has awards for screen writing, or is novel writing separated out?
Separate from the physical reconstruction of sets, clothes, cars, TVs, et al., the attitudes were what impressed me most - how the Hippies were called "dirty" and considered trashy, how parts of the movie people mixed with the Hippies for drugs and sexcapades, especially how MANSON was handled in the script barely appearing yet menacingly and malignantly seeping through over everything with the other characters seeing things without knowing what they were seeing. The PITT character was even told explicitly by the Hippie girl that he was the one who was "blind."
*** I was insulated from lots of things by being in the military from 1967-71 - huge blanks about events like the moon landing and yes the MANSON murders. That is, read the BUGLIOSI book after I was back in college. Along with many returning vets, I was grazed by things in the early '70s, had a beard and long hair. Actually took a trip to L.A. for a few days and stayed with a cousin, who was freaked out by the hair/beard - the aftermath of MANSON that I wasn't expecting.

(35,438 posts)His character is based on the stuntman, Hal Needham who was best friends with Bruce Reynolds. Needham was also involved with the design of airbags:
