Did you ever wonder why hot dogs come in packages of 10 while a bag of buns only has eight? Does it make you angry? It apparently annoys the folks at Heinz, too. So the company thats built its name on ketchup has started a petition to address what theyre calling the hot-dog-to-bun-ratio.
The Heinz Hot Dog Pact on Change.org calls for Big Bun and Big Wiener companies to find the answer to this hot dog packaging mismatch, once and for all.
Weve seen our fans through social media express their outrage about the bun-to-hot-dog ratio issue for years, and we know there must be a better way, said Daniel Gotlib, Kraft Heinz Co.s associate director of brand building and innovation. As the iconic condiment that has been making hot dogs complete for over 150 years, we saw an opportunity to champion this issue on behalf of hot dog lovers across North America and help show manufacturers why they need to put an end to unequal packs.
The petition started on July 6, and as of press time had more than 24,000 signatures from across the country. It can be signed through the end of the month at HeinzHotDogPact.com. July, not surprisingly, is National Hot Dog month. You can follow the success of Heinz Ketchups campaign on Twitter and Instagram.

(2,860 posts)We still have all their kitties though. We'll go rescue another dog eventually, but the time is not right. Our current house has no fenced in yard and we're still paying off old vet bills.

(36,461 posts)But I'm glad you have your kitties. We currently have a ten year old bulldog that we got when she was eight. She wasn't very well trained or socialized and has been a challenge, but she has a sweet disposition and has come a long way.

(2,860 posts)During the last few years of his life we would mosey around the neighborhood. He didn't need a leash anymore. He was a big old fluffy bear of a dog. I had a neighbor pass us by with her dog on a leash and she asked me, 'doesn't he need a leash?'. I just said, 'watch out, he's comin' at ya at full speed!'. This elicited some laughter and defused the situation. For the most part Samson would wait for other dogs to come up and meet him. Our young rescue cats would come out of the bushes to see him too. One of our cats really misses him and he sits out front and watches the other neighborhood dogs go by. He keeps his distance though because they don't react the same as our dogs did. I miss our dogs, but I'm not sad that they're gone. I'm glad that I had all the years that we had together, and I know there will be more in the future.

(17,434 posts)Our hot dogs have always come in packs of eight. I've only seen the crappy ones come in packs of ten.
We end up with extra buns after the dog helps us eat.

(14,966 posts)In any case, it's cheap, nearly free, advertising for Heinz. As they intended.
I was under the impression that the number of hotdogs in package was related to their weight (such as that was the number of hotdogs in a pound, or whatever, once upon a time and so that became the standard) whereas the number of buns in a package was related to their width (and the width of trays uses to bake them, again once upon a time, and again becoming the standard).

Republicans rolled with laughter, saying 'real Americans' put ketchup on hot dogs.
Some famous hot dog places around the country came out and said they don't even keep ketchup in their shops.
They said that mustard is for hot dogs; ketchup for hamburgers.

(17,193 posts)More advertising BS. Heinz would have a better case if they claimed that relish was an important component of hot dogs... but Heinz no longer makes relish.
