Just A Kiss

I was at a 4th of July party and an old friend was there. We go way back to when we both got hired at GM in 1972. We worked and partied together for years, and never entirely lost touch. We were pretty close friends, and "Weed" and I even got nicknames that long outlasted the wild days of our youth.

When I came into the house she approached me for the obligatory old friend hug, but as she neared she puckered up and zeroed right in on my lips and... kissed me. Right on the lips! It was just a peck, but that innocent bus made me bristle and tense in total surprise.

Immediately, my hand began to rise and... No! I recall it's not polite to wipe it off, and my mind raced to what I should say or do in response. What did she expect of me? What if I caught something?

It had been so long with masks and the pandemic that I didn't remember how to handle such an intimate gesture, so I licked my lips like a lecher and proposed to her. Turns out I may have read too much into it. I'll get used to the old normal eventually.
