The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsMy husband died today
Back when covid started he was set to begin a new cancer trial. It did not happen so for his safety he continued on an oral chemo at home. I have no doubt that this shortened his life. I am not stupid nor am I kidding myself he lived a very long time beyond his projected life span and I am grateful for it. I also know that Covid was not helpful. Video appointments are not optimal when dealing with cancer but going in would have been worse. Because he had cancer in his lungs we needed to protect him. We did the best we could.
I am sure there are many like us who lost precious time because of the unaccounted for ramifications of covid.

Damn COVID. Damn Cancer. And damn COVID again.
Be good to yourself. You are going to need your strength to deal with all the paperwork and bureaucracy surrounding death in the next few months. Please remember there is always someone here at DU and there are quite a few of us widows--and widowers--too. Sometimes it helps to talk with someone who's been through it.

(623 posts)Dwell on your good memories. Death of a loved one always hurts, whether it be a death that can be somewhat anticipated, or a sudden event. End result is still the same.
When you wake up tomorrow morning, think about all the good times and good memories and smile.

(1,336 posts)I can truly appreciate your deep sense of loss. My husband had lymphoma and, while I knew the end was probably near, he was actually fortunate to die of a sudden massive stroke, in the middle of the night in his own bed. I was numb (some would call it shock) and my darling nieces (like daughters to us) helped me through.
Let others help YOU! Collect your favourite photos of your husband and put them in every room of your house. He will always be with you and you will treasure the memories those photos evoke.
With my sincere sympathy.
