We went to an "immersive" exhibit called "Beyond Van Gogh" today. Room 1 was a bunch of hanging interpretations of various styles of Van Gogh paintings, with historic information on some, and excerpts Vincent's writings to his brother Theo on the others. I imagine Theo received Vincent's letters with a hand-on-forehead look of "Merde, not more advice from Vincent!" Some interesting historical tidbits, anyway.
The second room was a large cavernous space with columns, animations of Van Gogh works projected on walls, floor, and columns. The room was filled with sound: sort of electronic dance/trance hard to describe, I'll call it "Spa music". Just yell at your speaker, "Alexa, play spa music" and you'll get the genre. The walls were covered with slightly animated reproductions of works-of-a-kind: all portraits of his friends, then they would all slowly morph into all still-life, animated with moving leaves etc, then segued into all pictures of farms, then bistros, then all self-portraits, then random palate colors, then boats on the water, etc.
The only music I recognized was "starry, starry, night" re-orchestrated into spa music.
I was mesmerized by the second room, and grateful that we got there ahead of the crowd so we could grab a bench. The show lasted almost an hour.
I'm ready to go back again. Maybe with some (legal in MI) gummy treats.
Cheers

(51,025 posts)were huge animated Van Gogh paintings that moved and surrounded you. The music was great classical pieces and Edith Piaf, choral pieces and a couple I didn't recognize.
My companions and I all agreed that it was almost like being hypnotized. It was great.

(22,277 posts)which featured a variety of works with various holographic motion features. for example: "The butchers" would morph into a working butcher shop showing the butcher hacking away and the blood dripping and the dog licking up the spillage.
The best one was a large room with cushions on the floor; one would lie on the cushions to experience it. The top of the room had little cherubs around the edge peeking down and pointing at things, murals on the walls wit movement, changing scenery.
It was so much fun. To this day it is one of my favorite Kimbell experiences.
