(36,562 posts)In just a couple of weeks, the number of squirrels in our area has decreased significantly. I know some neighbors don't like them one bit.

(28,883 posts)Red squirrels ate the plastic fender on our lawn tractor. One got in the house and before we could catch it it chewed many feet of trim around windows.
My friend raised an orphan and we used to have a friendly argument on the value of red squirrels.
But they are cute.

(17,122 posts)as I did the dishes. They are so entertaining We got a rope cable years ago at a sale for $1 and tied it across the gap between the 2 big trees. The squirrels love their 'highway' And the water, and the food.

(2,551 posts)to knock on trees with woodpecker holes to see if anyone was home. If they have nests they look out to see who's knocking at the door. It's quite comical to see them looking down at you and you're craning your neck to look up at them.
After a few unsuccessful attempts, he knocked on a fairly small and completely dead tree with a hole near the top - and maybe 12 feet over our heads.
Sure as sh*t, a flying squirrel pops his head out and floats over our heads. It lands about 30 feet away and scampers into another hole. His head swiveled around and the look on his face was - what in the f*ck is that?
He's a young adult now and we still laugh at that squirrel.

Wonder how all this activity was so minutely recorded.

I never see baby squirrels out and about. Do they try in the nest until they are launched?
