(1,858 posts)8. To make it look this effortless requires a LOT of physical
ability from the rider. It is a very physically demanding skill that takes years to develop. It does not look like the rider is even moving, but all leads for the horse's movement is coming from a physical cue from the rider. Leg strength is as important for a rider in this sport as it is in a lot of other Olympic sports - and more than in some others. These riders 'just sitting there' are exerting a good amount of physical effort.
