Hassles or Vagrants??? (NYC area radio ads for the Action House hyped these two Long Island bands like crazy back in the 60s.)

I'm going with the Hassles.

... became popular due to member Leslie West, who later co-founded Mountain.

I grew up on Long Island, and was in the audience the night West last performed with The Vagrants at a then-popular LI bar.

No Long Islander missed the irony when Billy Joel went on to fame and fortune, as it was The Hassles' flamboyant lead singer, Johnny Dizek, who everyone assumed was destined for stardom.

Those were the days, my friend - when we would end a night of bar-hopping by catching the last set of The Rascals performing at some Long Island bar before heading to an open-all-night diner for coffee and a pile of greasy French fries.

in ads for Long Island clubs as well.

I was a little bit young for going to the Hassles-Vagrants-Rascals gigs. My bar-hopping nights were more around Max's, Village clubs like the Bitter End, and later, the Bottom Line. My Long Island bar days were pretty much centered around My Father's Place.
