(86,862 posts)five to eight weeks old already. They are old enough to feed independently from the looks of them. I hope you can capture the rest soon.
And kudos for all that you have done so far!

(26,308 posts)And happily licking wet kitten food from my fingers, so I'm going to just set some in their box to see how they do.
I'm no expert at 'sexing' kittens but I think they are both female. And they are SOOOO much more comfortable with me - no more hissing or showing me their deadly dagger of death claws.

(86,862 posts)Help you capture their mom and any other siblings of that litter. I used to be good at "sexing" kittens but I don't know if I could describe doing it.
I think you'll do fine. Cats tell each other where the safe houses are, I know this from watching my friend who was always nurturing strays, she'd call me to talk them off a roof or out of trees. I was good at that too for some reason. She always had a cat or three that she called hers and they would tell strays that they could come to their cat room in the back of the house and they would have their babies there and we would get them fixed and try to find them homes. It's a college neighborhood so there's an endless supply of left behind kitties.

(115,907 posts)If there's anything cuter than kittens I don't know what it could be. They look worried but I'm sure they'll settle down with some food and cuddling.

(8,208 posts)You were right to catch them.

(8,208 posts)Well done.
Do you think you're going to try to catch the mama, too? The kittens will be fine either way--they're going to have much happier lives because you caught them--but in a perfect world their mom would also be there until they are at least eight weeks old, and then you'd be able to get her spayed. But the downside is, once you've used a Have-A-Heart trap to catch her, you might no be able to use it again, so getting her to the vet might be tricky.
When I caught a feral mom after bringing her kittens inside, she completely freaked until I brought her into the bathroom where the kittens were sequestered, and then she settled right in.
But either way, this is great news. Because of you, these babies are going to grow up to have happy, safe lives.

(26,308 posts)I realize the older ones are likely too feral to really domesticate but I'll keep feeding them.
No doubt I will keep just one of these kittens. I'm not one for more than 2 cats and I already have Sophie Stinky Toes. So it's just a matter of deciding which one. They are all so adorable.

(26,308 posts)They are warm, fed, and very comfortable. And they are discovering the joy of getting their bellies scratched.

(86,862 posts)All together asap. If you can show her a safe path to where you want her and the kittens to stay, show her, she will go to where they are instinctively. Make sure you can close the door behind her and let her know that they are safe there, she'll adapt to the conditions to make sure she can tend her babies. Easy as that. If the others see that you gave her that, they might start to be more approachable.
Just a thought.

(26,308 posts)They're not going back out to her. She's far too feral to ever allow in the house. I can get to within about 3 or 4 feet of her and she runs.
These kittens are going to go to good homes and NOT add to the obviously bursting population of ferals, around here. Next we are going to TNR every one we can catch. I love having them around, I just don't want them reproducing. This would be 8 kittens in less than 4 months. 4 are probably now too old to habituate, but they can be fixed and released.
Having a place for them to all be together but she couldn't move them isn't available. I think your plan is good. I think the older kittens are still tamable. Your interacting with them will lengthen the time for which that is possible. I think you'll have captured most of them in the next week or two. If that one you think is pregnant can be lured to some kind of safe spot you can access, you might be able to capture her around birthing time, which won't be long.
Good luck, you know how to deal with what you have around your place. Glad you care about them and are doing something about it.

(5,164 posts)They are precious💕 Are they old enough to be apart from mom? If eating solid food I would think so but contact a local rescue for help to make sure. They will know fosters who are experienced with caring for young kittens and moms etc. They can also help trap mom for eventual tnr. If she can be tamed she may be able to be adopted as well.

(26,308 posts)I did check and was told these kittens are right on the verge of being kicked off of mom's nipples and if they were able to coordinate eating wet kitten food, go ahead and let them have some. I'm also giving them kitten milk.
I am going to contact a local agency about TNR. We have a really good humane society in Genesee County, and a couple other rescue places. 3 of the kittens won't be staying. It's just a question of choosing one to keep.

(5,164 posts)One of my boys was an outdoor guy, I care for a small colony, he actually bit me before I took him inside and now he is a big love bug who loves tummy rubs and hugs etc. Nearly all outdoor cats can be tamed in time but it takes time, many were dumped cats and initially had owners. I know someone with a whole colony she brought inside one by one, all supposed untamable ferals. Some can still live inside but they may not be touchable etc.
I recently tried to save two of my colony who were ill, I brought them inside but it was too late. One had started to let me pet him outside after several years and gave head butts, the girl was not touchable but I planned to keep her anyway.
Thank you so much for helping/ saving them. 💕You are going to have a hard time choosing which kitten to keep.
