...Stephen King and James Patterson. So I'll try guess #3--Danielle Steel? If it isn't her, than I haven't the foggiest notion...

I sold very little Danielle Steele for the 7 years I owned a bookstore.
Not sure I ever carried any new titles from her either.
I used to order 5 copies of the latest King or Grisham to hit paperback - and they never sold.
Then there was the Horse Whisperer. I kept ordering one copy of that and it would sell in a day, then, thinking it was a fluke, I would order another, sell it in a day (or two). I should have ordered 25 copies from the start, but who knew?
I should have known about the Frank Lloyd Wright book (especially since I was in his home town). My friend laughed at me when I got ten. Took me two years to sell them, but I could have still been selling them, and when the ten were gone, I could not get any more (of that particular book). It was such a neat book, the furniture store down the street displayed one in their window.

wrote screenplays in Hollywood for nearly 20 years, and was a close friend of director
Howard Hawks (they both enjoyed drinking and hunting).
