(25,916 posts)doubts about financial advisors. She essentially said, "If he's that good, why is he still advising?" I pointed out that there might well be lot of reasons for the continued advising, and her response was more or less along her original statement. Well honestly, there may be very good reasons that financial advisors keep a low profile.
I am speaking as someone whose financial advisor is not a all flashy, and who had done me quite well for several decades now. Yes, he's a wonderful advisor and I'd recommend him to anyone.

(10,885 posts)was an interesting experience, and I elected not to hire this particular gentleman from a well-known company. He was nice enough and seemed to know what he was talking about, but his stained tie and frayed cuffs turned me off immediately. Is this how a successful F.A. dresses? If he's not making enough with great investments so that he can afford newish clothing, is this the person in whom to entrust my savings?
"If you're so smart..." indeed!

(14,087 posts)I was an atheist and skeptic until one night I was reading in my bedroom and suddenly there was an apparition of a woman standing right at the foot of my bed. She was there about five seconds and then disappeared. I wasnt asleep, I was sitting up in bed and continued to be awake the rest of the night. I still have no idea who the hell the woman was.

(9,581 posts)Large baking potato = bake 1 hour at 425 degrees F
Pork loin roast = roast 1 hour at 375 degrees F
How do I get these cooked so that they will be ready at the same time? The roast will need to rest for 10 minutes in addition to the hour roasting time.

(10,885 posts)The potatoes to bake at this temperature will require 68 minutes. Start them with the roast, roast together for the hour, remove roast and keep potatoes in oven for 8 of the 10 mins. for the rest time.
Here's the calculation:
1 hour (60) times 425 dgs = 25,500 "degree/minutes" required for the potato.
25,500 dg/min (what is required) divided by 375 dgs (temp available) = 68 minutes.
Thus, start roasting together at 5:00 pm.
Remove roast at 6:00 pm.
Remove potatoes at 6:08 pm while pork is resting.
Hope this helps.

(10,885 posts)I learned of this conversion method long ago, but rarely use it. It does come in handy when needed.
Finding the "degree/minutes" is the key, then adjust the temps.
Dinner sounds great! What time should we be there?

C'mon over! Thanks again.

(9,581 posts)It may seem a small thing, but I struggle with timing when I cook, especially as I've gotten older, so I have your formula saved for other days. Thanks again.
