(26,256 posts)The weird thing is, I normally don't care for really bloody or violent films. Maybe it's the acting, I don't know, but I really enjoyed those two films.
Well, and to be perfectly honest, I think the only other Tarantino film I've seen is 'From Dust Till Dawn', which is an 'ok' film.

(53,759 posts)and "Jackie Brown" are also excellent. IMO those are his top three. Your taste is your taste though. You like what you like. Not liking "Pulp Fiction" though causes me to question your judgment.

(53,759 posts)His gift for dialogue amazes me. It's like conversations I've participated in or overheard on the street or public transit.
He's got quite an ear, like a good writer's. Film makers/auteurs take the next step and turn what could be a good book or even short story into a film.

(11,627 posts)I saw it in the theater while I was in college and I remember all the kids at the campustown theater cheering throughout in Champaign, IL. To watch it now its not nearly as startlingly different as it was at the time in the same way that Star Wars is much less awe inspiring in my opinion. Other directors pick up on movie themes and they become normative so we forget how groundbreaking they were in context.

(32,444 posts)Tarantinos Mom Reacts to Director Vowing Not to Share Money with Her: I Support and Love Him
Tarantino vowed not to give his mom a penny of his fortune after she yelled at him for writing scripts in school.
-----------
Tarantino said on the podcast that his mother had a hard time with his scholastic non-ability, so she wasnt too happy with him when she found oue was spending time in class writing screenplays instead of paying attention to his teachers.
She was bitching at me about that and then in the middle of her little tirade, she said, Oh, and by the way, this little writing career, with the finger quotes and everything. This little writing career that youre doing? That shit is fucking over, Tarantino said. She meant you just cant do that in class when you should be doing something else.
Tarantino retaliated by making a promise to himself: When she said that to me in that sarcastic way, I was in my head and I go, OK, lady, when I become a successful writer, you will never see penny one from my success. There will be no house for you. Theres no vacation for you, no Elvis Cadillac for mommy. You get nothing. Because you said that.
When asked if Tarantino stuck to his vow, the director responded: Yeah. Yeah. I helped her out with a jam with the IRS. But no house. No Cadillac, no house. There are consequences for your words as you deal with your children. Remember there are consequences for your sarcastic tone about whats meaningful to them.

(12,022 posts)I never used to care for his movies either. Then I watched "Once Upon a Time..." and that just blew me away. A twisting of history that was weirdly satisfying -- violence and all.

(41,974 posts)But, I dislike most movies. I get bored once I can predict the plot. I dislike most TV too. Also, boring or cringe. Like that GOT crap. Ugh.
Im no judge though cause I do like really bad movies, old B movies, Gallo movies, a lot of horror. John Wick level of action movies
Tatantinos comic book approach matches my sense of the ironic. Havent watched that latest one though.

I did enjoy Jackie Brown and Reservoir Dogs. That could have something to do with when I saw them.

(15,731 posts)Tarantino wrote the screenplay, but Tony Scott directed.
Lots of top drawer names in that film.
But yeah, that's the only one I like. I mostly dislike or really, really dislike (Reservoir Dogs) the rest of them.
