blurt out "treat" or "ball" or "walk" or "grandma" or "beach"?
All the humans are doing is teasing their dogs and confusing them. Don't trigger a dog unless you're prepared to follow up.

Talking with an actual person, our dogs go nuts because they think I'm talking to someone at the door. It was really bad when I was working at home.

Gotta love 'em!

My wife and I can pick up on the "tone" of our dog's vocalization (excited, aggressive, pleading, etc.) but we have never distinguished any distinct "words" from the barks, of course. It would be interesting to know if there are word equivalents in dog "language."
