(16,844 posts)I also hate for my bacon to taste burnt. I have a slotted tray that I use for cooking bacon in the microwave. It seems to get my bacon done better than if I cooked it in a pan on the stove.

(2,218 posts)I would happily eat a 6, or a 4, but the rest I would have to cook some more.

(24,467 posts)I shoot for 5 every time. I bag it and add to soup or sammy's during the next week or 2. 15 secs in the Microwave is recommended!

(25,936 posts)I was very particular about bacon in my younger days, picking off any fat that wasnt cooked to a crisp.

(2,218 posts)I actually like well-cooked fat. I jut enjoyed some nice cooked fat on a pork chop.
But I have miraculous cholesterol numbers, genetically. It does make me self-indulgent.

(25,936 posts)I still balk at devouring a large hunk of soft bacon fat, but I can handle the fat at the edge of a pork chop now. I was an unapologetic picker in my younger days. BTW, my cholesterol numbers are great too.

(38,311 posts)... and then I cook it in stages and so there's a selection from 2 to 5, soft to crunchy.
I don't like the smell of burnt bacon at all. For me a "6" would ruin the entire batch.
My grandfather ate bacon, two eggs, and toast for breakfast almost every day. It may have been a reaction to the Great Depression and World War II rations. He'd fry the eggs in the bacon fat and sometimes the toast as well. That probably knocked a few years off his life but maybe he thought it was worth it.

haele
(12,650 posts)A light rush of molasses or brown sugar.
350 degrees in a pan covered with aluminum foil, over long wooden skewers to get it out of the grease for about 15 minutes.
Just crispy enough to crumble, but not burnt.
