Hello all you lovely DU loungers,
I really am trying to not to post about my trip coming up in February. However, this happened the other day...
I booked a flight in June of this year to go from Mumbai, India to Cape Town, South Africa. The flight went to Singapore, had a 4 hour layover, then on to Cape Town.
Two days ago, I received an email from Singapore Airlines notifying me that: 1- my flight from Mumbai to Singapore had been cancelled and no other flight was offered and no refund was offered; and 2- my flight from Singapore to Cape Town was rescheduled 24 hours later, which was a scheduling pain for me but not insurmountable.
I called their Customer Service number last night, and was told: 1- there were no flights available on this route for the next day; and 2- there were no flights available on this route for the previous day. Yes, I could have continued trying to book a flight with Singapore Airlines, but I just got fed up and demanded a refund for both legs of the flight back to my credit card. They are issuing the refund back to my credit card.
Is this common ? For an airline to TOTALLY cancel a flight and offer no substitute flight and not offer a refund ? I have had other airlines reschedule my flights, but this is the first time in my entire life where an airline totally cancelled a flight with no substitution and no refund offered.
Thanks for reading all of that !

(6,261 posts)It was right when things went sour in early March. Never a word of a refund or even credit for another flight.
I finally managed to get home via 24 hour worth of flying on United, but Delta still hasn't said a word.
