(17,984 posts)I told one with a clip board I never answered the door after dark. He looked startled but left.

(21,337 posts)Was working in LA at a glass bottle factory, one of the LA factory workers came up to me and said, want to get a break? He said tale out your measuring tape, extend it to 10 inches, carry a clip board and just start measuring things, no one will bother you. He was right.

(17,984 posts)Me to say, too. I play tricks on the family by waiting until they are on the porch, tell them, Go away, I do not want anything! But that only startles them once.

(17,984 posts)My phone is an icon on my cell and IPAD. The insurance company pays for a Life Alert So I can press a button, get anything I need, including transportation.
Now, if they could just blow 5 inches of snow.

(34,136 posts)If I'm at the desk to answer it easily, it is almost always a scam call. But if I am waiting for an important call, all I have to do is to go to the bathroom and there is an 80% chance the call will come in while I am there. The other 20% of the time, I will have made lunch and sat down to take my first bite.
For the calls that come in when I'm in the bathroom, I have a choice - I can take the phone with me and hope they can't hear the noises made while I am there. Or I can let it go to the answer machine and hope they will leave a message. A surprising number of people will not leave messages anymore. They expect that whoever they are calling will be available 100% of the time.
bathroom = finally getting the call back you have been waiting two days for.
