THEY'RE HERE!

The snow crocuses have made their appearance! One day they're not there, and the next, they miraculously are. You never see their little foliage spikes or their buds, they just appear seemingly out of nowhere, unlike all the other early flowers. And no matter how ugly the weather is in succeeding days, even if it snows, they survive it.

when I lived in PA. It was a sign that Spring was coming, regardless of what Punxsutawney Phil says on Feb, 2.

are different from regular ones (the bigger ones we're all familiar with). These guys are sneaky. You never see the foliage spikes or buds, whereas you do with the later ones and of course the giant ones. I don't know what the botanical name for these is, but they usually bloom at least a month before the others, either just before or right alongside the early snowdrops (which I haven't seen yet, even in the sheltered area). Snow is predicted for tonight, so they'll fold up, but the next sunny day they'll be out again and will bloom for at least another week or so.
