It's not like this is early in the availability of vaccines or the booster. Especially in our privileged country.

He is 80 years old, and his age alone does put him at extra risk. I'm 73 myself, so I understand that each and every day we inevitably get older. And I've seen age mates suddenly get sick, or develop serious impairments, and so I'm very aware of that.

Last November I and my younger sister made an emergency trip to Vienna, VA (just outside Washington DC) because of health emergencies with our 79 year old brother and his same age wife. On the way, we also learned of another health issue with a nephew who lives there. The specifics aren't important to this story, just the need to deal with these things. The health and living condition issues were largely dealt with, and it was really nice to see the relatives we had not seen since before the pandemic. As a bonus, My Son The Astronomer, who is in a PhD program in astronomy at George Mason University in Fairfax Va, was able to see me a total of four different times while I was there. Hooray! I'd last seen him in October, 2019. I am working on having him visit me this coming summer.
