I never watched Headbanger's Ball that much, but I remember on Saturday mornings MTV used to play music videos of Aerosmith, Helix, Motley Crue, Skid Row, and White Lion, and Whitesnake just to name a few.

Early metal like Sabbath and Deep Purple, new wave British like Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, and thrash such as Metallica and Slayer. Sorry, I dont like hair metal.
