(1,923 posts)I've seen these come up for sale from time to time. I've heard 2 reasons for the water. One, they were flooded during the decommissioning process. And two, they flooded from water intrusion because they pumps that were used to keep them dry were shutdown/removed after they were decommissioned. Either way, flooding seems to be a common issue with these. Still very interesting though. Some of the ones converted to living space is pretty cool. I've heard others have been converted to data centers or high value storage space.

Not to diss Nebraskans but, I used to know someone in another life who would proclaim that one should never drive across Nebraska (or Kansas) in the daytime unless one has enough drugs to get to the other side.
