The smaller seeds are computer chips.

Always go for the organic watermelons with big black seeds.

a "seedless" watermelon, which is a bit misleading because there are seeds. They are just small enough to be edible. They still have the ones with the big black seeds, but they are not as popular and less common today.

It seemed like there was a roadside stand every 200 yards. They were ruby red and sweet as candy everywhere we went. They were on the menu three meals a day wherever we ate.

During high school, bunch of us went out partying on an Arkansas delta dirt road one hot summer night. On the way home, we snuck into a watermelon field and picked a watermelon, and drove off. It was no big deal, a couple of the guys worked for that farmer.

Wayne says my grandma’s not home, let’s go over there and eat it. We put the hot watermelon in the sink, hacked it open, and ate it right there. It was delicious!

About the time we were washing our hands and faces, and drying them on the kitchen curtains, Wayne’s grandma walked out of the bedroom and scared the crap out of us.

She yelled at us for making a mess, grabbed a fork, and started eating that watermelon!

I also save seeds from butternut squash and pumpkins ... grow them in the spring, the greens are good for salad, or at least I like them.

We often add nuts to ours too. I so love watermelon salad in the summer - they just go together so well.
