The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsMy wife and I don't like the same kind of movies.
I like historical films, she likes "chick flicks" and "horror movies."
My wife sneered, "I don't want to watch movies about Hitler." I said I couldn't handle a "chick flick."
To bridge the gap, she googled "Hitler Chick flicks" and to our joint surprise lots of movies actually came up. We laughed like hell that anything came up.
We went to the library and checked out "Jojo Rabbit."
Not a bad compromise.
I rather enjoyed it, despite its elements of horror. It, um, bridged the gap.

(33,643 posts)Even though I know it really well, the scene with the shoes, and the ending ... choke me up hard every time.
Such a brilliant film.

(24,736 posts)we are watching what I believe is the most inspired tv series of all time: Reservation Dogs on Hulu - produced and created by Taika Waititi (along with Sterlin Harjo), who also directed JoJo Rabbit (Waititi).

(5,528 posts)I think it is one of the best films of the last decade.
I think it is rare to find a farcical dark comedy that works on such a serious subject but I loved this one.

(4 posts)Paul Verhoven is the brilliant mind who makes some of the greatest chick flicks ever, from Basic Instinct to Robocop. You won't be disappointed.

(33,525 posts)...campus on pornography, in which Harry Reems was a live (but clothed) participant with his film "Deep Throat" being shown before the "discussion."
She went to the film but didn't stay through all of it. We still joke about it though.
I'm fairly certain that her popularity with men in those days was more connected with her looks than having been seen in the audience, at least I hope so. (I didn't go to the showing.)
She and her girlfriends apparently viewed it as some kind of rite if passage.
I don't think such an "event" would go over all that well on a modern campus nor should it.
We have a long way to go, but we have moved considerably from those days. My wife is a feminist and is appropriately offended by violence against women and objectification of women.
She is not happy if I discuss that I was interested in her initially because of her looks, but she subsequently spent some decades teaching me what beauty really is and she hopes I'm not an entirely lost cause.

(2,252 posts)JoJo Rabbit you might try The Death Of Stalin. I love 30's horror films. My favorite romantic movie is The Ghost and Mrs Muir 1947.

(33,525 posts)...agreed to watch it and enjoyed it, but probably not as much as I did.
I had to see it alone when it was in theaters, but we've seen it multiple times on DVD.
