FEBRUARY 23, 2016
Spider embryo. Molecular characterization and embryonic origin of the eyes in the common house spider Parasteatoda tepidariorum. Göttingen University.
Taken from recent research into the development of eyes in spiders, this microscopic image shows what a common house spider looks like as it develops inside an egg. For some reason, its disturbingly cute? This little cthulhu-like spider embryo is nearing the final stage before hatching and appears to be stuck in a tiny self hug. You can learn more about the embryonic origin of eyes in common house spider over on BioMed Central. (via Reddit, Göttingen University)

(10,434 posts)1. I wouldn't use either word
to describe any stage of a spider's life. Not cute, not adorable.
They can just stay in the attic and outdoors and eat what bugs are left these days.

(10,185 posts)2. I think it's cuter than human fetuses and embryos
Human fetuses look like fish even when those flippers start to change into hands ....fetuses look pretty creepy. Probably because they look a bit human, but in a weirdly looking fish human.
I don't understand people who post fetus and embryo pictures from ultrasound imaging. If you can make anything out, it's usually pretty creepy looking. Not for the parents though. I can understand that if they wanted a child, the images are reassuring and comforting.
But this little spider embryo looks nothing like a human, so it's kind of cute.
