I met an old woman who swore by 1 shot of Dewars before dinner. She looked 69 at 80.

Wish I could get Stroh's brandy. Not to mention cognac. Is 1910 cognac still good? How about 1927 wine?

because they have more complex sugars. American vodka or gin? I'm awake all night. But gimme a good Old World brandy? Heaven never slept so good.

Hope you're on the mend, and don't do the brandy until the pain pills are gone.

11am surgery and at 6:30pm it is still pretty bad. Unfortunately alcohol is off the table as I’m taking pain pills for a few days.

Patients call after hours for medical advice. It’s supposed to be for emergencies only. But people call for medication refills, and sometimes (cynically speaking ) if they have nothing better to do.

There’s very little we can do over the phone. And if it IS an emergency, we tell them to go to the emergency room.

My contract says I get $1,000 a year to pull call. I’d give them the $1,000 back right now if I never had to pull call again. People abuse the system awfully.

I once got a call at 3am from a guy who didn’t have an emergency, just “some questions about COVID-19.” I nearly threw my phone against the wall. They must think I’m awake in some office somewhere instead of trying to get some sleep for the next day of clinic.

In short, out-patient call sucks.

Then I mixed a Pear Swizzle. Pear brandy, rum, Angostura bitters, and lime juice.
