Surprised to see this fast food restaurant near one of those iconic places in Rome. Couldn't figure out who would need a place like this....
Next morning, we're looking for a breakfast with eggs....
So, yea, there's no such thing as a Roman breakfast with eggs.
Mickey D's to the rescue.

(16,646 posts)Skiing in a beautiful and quaint town called Zell Am Zee in Austria. It is so quaint it's like something out of a Theme Park. Right in the middle of town is a McDonald's. Well, we copped an attitude and announced we would never eat THERE. Spent much of the week finding all sorts of Austrian based restaurants. We were happy.
One night, we drop by a local hockey game and watch what appeared to be about a "high school" level game. Game was over and we sort of followed the crowd back into town. They all seem headed towards the same place. Turns out, after the game a lot of families and friends go to McDonald's. It's a very "local" thing to do. 'Course, it helps that they sell beer there too.

(15,381 posts)Is just another person's hometown. A lot of beautiful buildings were built to house businesses, etc. Just the businesses change over the years. I experienced this in college when I went to Mexico City and Oaxaca on a college program - beautiful classical or baroque buildings housing a Pizza Hut.
Nicest Pizza Hut I ever ate in though.

Trevi fountain is widely recognized as an icon of Rome. Meaning that everybody knows that Trevi Fountain is in Rome.
Just like everyone knows the best mole is from Oaxaca.

I've seen them in Istanbul. My husband kept dragging me to one in Dublin, "because it's cheap." Yes, we're still married.

(130,895 posts)Flew into Paris, 'hiked' through subways looking for train to Bordeaux, our first planned overnight; across street from hotel> McD's, MUCH better and more interesting than 'regular' McDs Americans have become used to, which we rarely visited (different from our daughters and my grandkids NOW, sadly.)
LAST such experience, on that great trip. Rented car in Bordeaux, so drove around a lot of France.
(Thanks for the memory!)
