(46,179 posts)Little guys get into standing on a 1000 lb bundle of muscle and bone while pounding along at speeds of up to 40 mph, in traffic with a bunch of others.
Don't let their smaller size fool you; it takes a great deal of strength, and athletic ability.
Then there are the jumpers. Combine the racing and the jumping, and you get steeplechase riders; while I, as a fearless adolescent, raced my friends down dirt roads and went over a few jumps, I was never foolhardy enough to do them both at the same time.
Oh, and don't forget the cowboys:

It takes a different kind of person to ride endurance competitions, trotting along for miles on Arabs, who, while athletic enough and masters of endurance, are not known for biddable temperaments or smooth trots. Here's a guy riding the Tevis Cup, 100 not-so-smooth or even miles in a day:
All kinds of guys get into equestrian sports!

The real heroes and athletes, though, in any equine sport are the horses themselves.

It was just fun looking at all those examples.
Rodeos are great! and we actually got time off from school to attend the local rodeo back in the early 60's. Give me rodeo events over volley ball.
and girls got to wear pants to school that day!
That was a big thing back in those days. Cowboy boots, hats and we didn't have to wear a dress.
