I kept washing my hands but obviously didn't do a good enough job. Cat came along after me and licked my keyboard clean. Isn't Twilight brilliant? I think I'll keep her.

(30,947 posts)I have 2 little dogs, a Chihuahua and a mini-Pin. I cannot think think of anything they do that is helpful. The only positive thing they do is get me out of the house to take them for a walk because I need the exercise.

(28,394 posts)They not only let me know if someone is at the door or in the driveway, but if there is a chipmunk on the patio or a bunny way in the back yard!
They also chase all of the birds out of the yard. And they are great little vacuum cleaners for any crumbs on the floor.
They are so helpful.

(15,774 posts)from the dining room or kitchen floor with my two dogs. Pizza bones, no problem, leftovers, no problem. If I let one of them near the cat box, that would not be a problem either.
My cat is fascinated by my taking showers and insists on drying my off by licking me. He also insists I start my morning off with a full body massage and a facial exfoliation. And of course, no well turned out work outfit is complete without contrasting fur.

(5,351 posts)Hey! My cat does that, too! She even waits on the lid of the clothes hamper while I'm in the shower. I've read that it's a sign of affection and that they accept you as "one of their own" when they groom you. Mine also grooms my beard in the winter, too--she's such a little weirdo.

(15,774 posts)This is the first one that wants to dry me. He will go into the tub and lick that too. I can't for the life of me figure out why. All I can remember is men of my grandfathers age saying so and so was so hot they would drink their bathwater.....and it makes me laugh. Maybe it is a compliment.
He cleans my ear and thinks my ear ring is a flea and tries to get rid of it. He is one of the funniest cats I have ever had.

He also makes sure that I know my bladder is full by kneading. He protects me from oversleeping, which might cause his breakfast to be late. And he has taught me a really cool trick when coming in or going out of doors. He is awesome.

She has a household to run, you know.
And she knows I need to go out and earn money for cat food.

(27,630 posts)Pets want to be helpful even though they often get it wrong... by licking your feet, by demanding attention while you are on the toilet, or by placing their butt near your face. If you can get past all that,, get ready for some serious love.

(37,648 posts)She keeps an eye out, when Roy is playing with his tennis balls. She's johnny on the spot if his ball rolls under something. She runs over and paws and moves things, or reaches underneath with her longer muzzle, and gets the ball. She brings it to me, I fawn over her doing a good job, then give the ball to Roy.
They both help me take out the trash. Well, they don't really "help" much. They just run to the door to walk out to the trash can with me.

(8,646 posts)he passed away 4 years ago and I haven't gotten another dog yet.
He used to clean the floor. Whenever the kids dropped something, or ate like wild animals, my doggy would clean it up. My friend, who had the same amount of kids, same ages, complained about sweeping her floor constantly. I never had to. If I dropped something sticky or gooey, I'd call my dog's name and he'd lick it right up.
As soon as he died I noticed a difference. I now have to sweep constantly. He was my biggest helper. And now that my brother and parents have had/have many dogs, and I see them often (and dogsit) I realize that not ALL dogs do this, either because of pickiness ("ew, I hate THAT, you'll have to clean THAT up on your own" or entitlement/laziness ("Oh, I'm sorry, if you think I'm going to eat that CRUMB you're crazy - I'm holding out for the steak" . I was lucky to have my little floor cleaner.

(95,337 posts)I get up around 7am on the weekdays but I try to sleep in on the weekends. But if I'm not out of bed I'll have 2 cats on my bed making a fuss until I get up and feed them.

(37,648 posts)to watch for me to look out. Then they look at the "thing" again and bark, and look at me at the house again. As if to say, "Look what we found! What the heck IS this thing? Bark bark bark bark bark!" (It was a possum.)
Of course they also bark if they hear any unusual sounds, but they'll be quiet once I check it out and tell them it's okay.
They're my good little watch dogs.
