Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI burned my finger in hot oatmeal this morning.
Its red and it hurts.
I ran cold water over it and now I am dipping it in cold water.
How do I know if I need to go to urgent care?
we can do it

(21,852 posts)If you have an aloe plant, put some aloe goo on it.
If you don't keep the finger in ice water.
I am talking about home remedies because I can't imagine the oatmeal getting hot enough to get a burn serious enough to go to urgent care. I'm sure it hurts.

(16,829 posts)Great idea, I will cut some.
The oatmeal was in the microwave and I forgot to put a mitt on. When its just done cooking its pretty hot.

Old Crank
(3,628 posts)Cooled it as quickly as possible. It was painful and formed a blister quite fast. After it formed and stopped being painful I left it alone and used a bandaid to protect it. Since the blister didn't rupture I got no infection.
Ymmv.
Good luck.

(16,829 posts)I think blisters can appear a day or two later with first degree burns. I think the faster they appear the worse the burn is.

(3,628 posts)Now you get the fun of finding out how often you use that finger...
And try to work around it.

(23,156 posts)I am fair skinned and was born and raised on the No, FL. coast, with cousins in Sarasota. Between those beaches, I blistered many times and suffered a lot, blistered often and even got sun sickness one time. Then I discovered aloe and my life improved a lot. I'm old now, use sunscreen liberally and don't spend whole days at the beach or lake anymore. I also use at least 30 SPF. Aloe is also good for grease burns, probably burns of any nature. Use it often.
When I was in my 20's I tried sunbathing in the nude (really bad choice). It wasn't long that I lay out clothesless, but it was long enough for my boobs and butt to blister bad. Had huge blisters by the time I got home an hour or so later. We went on vacation the next day and I brought a bunch of fresh 12 inches plus aloe leafs with me and they lasted 6 days. On the 7th day, I ran out and started to blister again. Got home that night, immediately rubbed on more aloe, and blisters went right back into my skin and I had zero scars. The stuff is truly a life saver for fair skinned people living in hot sunny places.

(16,829 posts)I never sunbathed nude, but I remember getting some nasty burns from a particular bikini top that left too much skin exposed. It hurt like hell.

(23,156 posts)I even think I used a sun screen, but it obviously wasn't nearly strong enough. Dumb kid!

(86,794 posts)Wet finger, dip deeply into box of baking soda. Take finger out of box with as much caked on soda as possible, wrap finger in dampened paper towel and hold for a few minutes, until it stops throbbing. when that is over, rinse off the finger and treat it with care and maybe some protective cream.
