I was mildly interested, but Todd Palin as a "celebrity?" That lowered the stock value a bit for me.

(5,580 posts)based on what actual soldiers have to go through and win money for charity, if so i got no problem with it. Kinda be interesting on what they have come up with for the challenges.

I said, "Hey honey, this is that show that Nobel Laureates are protesting because it glorifies war." DH: "Really? huh."
I really should have rewatched the Grimm S1 finale before the S2 premiere...

(28,941 posts)Now if they want to get real, here's the scenario: Urban combat, a young woman appears who is suspiciously bulked out. Contestant has a nanosecond to decide if she's pregnant or strapped with high explosives. Whatever contestant decides, it won't end well. Either s/he will be hamburger helper/charcoal briquette or (providing s/he is a normal human being) suffer from post trauma.

Desmond Tutu calls for axing 'Stars Earn Stripes'
NEW YORKNine Nobel Peace Prize winners are speaking out against a new NBC competition series they say treats military maneuvers like athletic events.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the other Nobel laureates protested in an open letter that the show, "Stars Earn Stripes," glorifies war and armed violence.
The series, which premiered on Monday night, pairs celebrities with inactive U.S. military personnel for simulated military challenges. Celebrity participants include boxing champion Laila Ali, Superman actor Dean Cain, Olympic gold medalist Picabo Street and former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin's husband, Todd Palin.
The program is hosted by retired Army Gen. Wesley Clark.
"I'm doing this series for one reason," says Clark at the top of the show -- "to introduce you, the American people, to the individuals that sacrifice so much for all of us."
The series is billed on its website as a "fast-paced competition" whose contestants "will gather at a remote training facility where they will be challenged to execute complicated missions inspired by real military exercises."
Shame on Wesley Clark for doing this. You want to do a reality show that showcases what our military does - why not show a bunch of soldiers who just finished their 3rd or 4th tour in Aghanistan/Iraq and how they are dealing with PTSD.

(30,252 posts)We just got some photos from him a couple of days ago, and he seems to be doing fine and keeping his spirits up, but I know the nature of his missions, many of which he may never be at liberty to discuss, has got to take their toll on him.
I'd love to see Laila Ali and Picabo Street do their thing, but I think American Ninja Warrior has the right idea. You test your endurance without having to turn it into a live-fire exercise.
