(16,315 posts)Wish I had started training Ruby a long time ago

(34,442 posts)worn a harness. Her previous owner (nice lady entering assisted living) told me that she always wanted to dash out the door, so I thought I'd try to "train" her to wear a harness and take her outside. There was no training necessary. She took to it like a duck to water, lol. I have to take her out every morning. If I don't she gets increasingly obnoxious, jumping over me, on my lap, and finally, in what she knows will get me up, tries walking on my laptop keyboard. She's a furry, delightful little tyrant and has me completely trained.
Things went so well with Rosie that I thought I'd try it with my other two rescues. Sammy was not amused and Otis flopped down, played possum, and refused to budge. He was 16 pounds when I took him to the vet last month -- all muscle -- so he's definitely staying an apartment-dwelling cat.
So, you might want to see if Ruby is a natural like Rosie!
Here's Rosie checking out the world before her walk. The only thing that spooks her is the wind. If it's blowing over about 10 mph, she refuses to go out. Lucky for her we don't live in Chicago, haha.
