Hulu's Black Friday deal thru 11/28: $1.99/mo for a year, with ads. Add Disney+ w/out ads for $2.99

Last edited Sat Nov 26, 2022, 11:48 AM - Edit history (1)

Saw a commercial mentioning this on some channel I was watching for news earlier today, and went online to check it out.

This offer is good only for people who aren't current subscribers. It's for new and former subscribers.

I did sign up and added Disney+ as well since it seemed like a really good deal for only $5 total plus tax.

I'm not entirely sure that Disney+ on this plan will stay ad-free after the higher Disney+ prices go into effect on 12/8. It looks to me as if this one-year offer will stay ad-free, but it would be a good deal at $2.99 even with ads.

EDITING to add that when you sign up, you won't see the page with the add-ons until after you've signed up for Hulu and your credit card has been charged $1.99 for that. When you add Disney+ you'll see a message saying you're being charged $2.99 now and will be charged $4.98/mo in the future for the two services together.

more streaming services to their TV choices.

This deal, especially with Disney+ added, is one of the best I've ever seen. Usually I recommend that people subscribe to these services for only a month or two at a time, when there's something they particularly want to see, if they want to keep their spending on streaming services down. But this is cheap enough that if there are months when you have little time for TV, you're still spending a trivial amount.

US News article on the best streaming services in 2022:

https://usnews.com/360-reviews/technology/streaming-services

I have Amazon Prime Video, which is basically a freebie with the Prime membership I need for free, fast shipping.

And Peacock Premium, which I have for only $1.99/mo for a year because I paid $4.99/mo for a couple of months last summer to watch Yellowstone, didn't get caught up with it because as usual I didn't watch much TV, and a couple of months after I unsubscribed Peacock sent me an offer to get their ad-free tier with more shows again for $1.99/mo for a year.

So now I have Hulu, Disney+ (which I've subscribed to a number of times for 1-3 months in the past, at regular price), and Peacock Premium for $7/mo total. I don't currently have Netflix, Paramount+, or HBO Max, though I've subscribed to all three at times in the past and will probably do so again at times in the next year. I have nearly 50 channels OTA with an indoor HD antenna. And Roku gives me lots of streaming options, most of them free.

It's possible to cut the cord and have lots of TV options without ending up spending a large fraction of what you were spending for cable. You just need to watch for the best deals.

I have a Samsung TV and there is a limited streaming service you get for free just by registering your tv and setting up an account.

Depending on where you live you could get by with just that. Urban hubs mostly, as they source your news to a location.

It’s in the apps bar.
