Which one is your favorite misfit toy from Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer? Is it the bird that swims

Last edited Tue Nov 29, 2022, 11:06 PM - Edit history (2)

the cowboy that doesn't ride a horse, spotted elephant.train with square wheels, gun that shoots jelly, Jim in a box, or the dolly that, what was wrong with the Doll? And was it herbie or hermie,as the name of the Dentist elf?
. I have watched the show every year it has been on--1965, and love the lesson it tells. In one way or another we are all misfits in one way or another, but we can accept our differences. as strengths.
Thank you from a misfit who doesn't give a shit anymore. debbie

6. The dentist is Hermie. With an M. There is no Herbie.

According to Arthur Rankin (Rankin/Bass) the doll suffered from low self esteem.

Rudolph’s first year was 1964 — December 6th, after AFL football on NBC.

I’m a Rudolph freak!

8. Do you remember when the commercials had Santa sled riding on a Norelco shaver? And I think GE

must have been involved also-notice the bulb shaped noses on some of the elves. But I'm pretty sure it was a hermie/herbie shift someshere in the show.

The Norelco (Noëlco at Christmas time) Santa on a razor commercials lasted into the 1970s.

And, no, there was never a Herbie. It was always Hermie, or Hermey if you prefer.

When I eventually reached shaving age plus a few years, I got one of those rotary head Norelco razors. It sucked ass. It was okay for a quick hit on five o’clock shadow, but not for real everyday shaving.

Flash forward a few decades to prescription blood thinners and bleeding like the Czar’s kid from every small nick… I tried a $50 Wahl wet/dry razor and it is freaking fantastic. I don’t even need a backup “real” razor to deal with details, and if I go a few days, the trimmer knocks it down.

4. That wasn't in the original version. That looks like a character in a Tim Burton movie.

In the original version of the animated special, Rudolph never returned to the Island of Misfit Toys to rescue the abandoned playthings he had promised he’d help when he and his friends got marooned on their island. The show simply ended with the misfit toys never being revisited.

I like your posts of the deleted scene--they are funny.

Doesn't Boss Elf remind you of Jason Miller?
