I have never seen the Northern Lights, I've always been more of a sun and sunny climes person. I'd really love to see them some time and would even go out in the cold (with the purchase of cold weather attire of course) to see it. Problem is, it seems like it'd be such a crap shot with no idea if the lights will appear or not.

Does anyone have any suggestions for ensuring, or getting as close to that as possible, the sighting of these spectacular gifts of nature?

What you can see as solar wind passes by the planet after a solar flare of some magnitude. They can be predicted to some degree but not a long window of notice.

I have been to Iceland and it is worth the trip. I was not there during the lights, but spent my time in the Blue Lagoon.

in the '70's visiting Seattle on a business.

My mom as a kid in the ?late '20s, or very early '30s w her family sleeping on the apt building's roof on a hot Summer night in NYC with quite less light at night than today.

Noticed part of sky turning, sort of pulsing Red. Soon after the full green curtains!!

I've never been far north enough to o have a chance.
