(102,294 posts)I've had mine for 12 years, use it nearly daily and it is still working fine. That said, I did note that my same model was available for about $250 in black or $325-$358 (the premium price for red) on the Amazon Prime sale. Yes, there might be some professional model grade newly introduced for commercial purposes that is that expensive, but that really isn't typical.
So, I almost bought a spare but thought that would be silly. But, I do keep tabs on the replacement price because I like mine so much.

(57,073 posts)I've never been a big blender user. I have a small Oster & used it twice.
Then received an immersion blender for my bday. Wth would I do with this?

(23,641 posts)You dont have to transfer soups for example from pot to blender/food processor to purée, just blend in pot
Also emulsifying dressings in a container rather than blender , etc
Basically its a stick blender

(65,076 posts)...I've seen chefs using immersion blenders that look to weigh 20#.
I saw one that looked like it had a 10HP motor on it.
Now that's some blending power!
I just can't imagine a use in my lifestyle.
I never blend soups or dressings.

(6,362 posts)Never had a blender before.
I tried a V8 recipe that I didn't like at all. But the spinach/granny apple one is decicious!
Do you have a favorite recipe or website?
So fun having a new kitchen toy.

(102,294 posts)99% of what I use mine for is smoothies. And yes, I have a number of those I make regularly because they are formulated to be high in protein, relatively low fat, high in vitamins & minerals, fiber, and very filling. I make my own yogurt so most smoothies are yogurt-based, but I typically add some Benefiber (plain) powder for fiber and ground flaxseed to most of them. Various fruits, especially strawberry and mango (my two favorites) sometimes peanut butter instead, a bit of muscle milk protein powder, some ice, and a bit of sugar-free Torani or DaVinci syrup.
My go-to breakfast/brunch or light dinner, especially in the summertime, but good anytime.
The creamy soups are an occasional thing but Vita-Mix does a good job with them I think the recipes came from their included booklet or their website, where I've found quite a few. Mine can also grind nuts and spices with a special blade/cup I ordered, but frankly, I have rarely used it.
I have friends that do a lot of veggie smoothies, but frankly, I'm a big salad eater so I prefer my "greens" in "crunchable" form.
Enjoy. Vitamix blenders are US-made so I feel like the money is well spent especially as long-lasting as mine has been.

(57,073 posts)But have only made them twice.
I'm supposed to be eating low fat, low carb, low sugar, low salt diet. What's left?
Do you have a fav recipe website?

(102,294 posts)'Healthy" fats are neuro-protective. I do a lower glycemic index type of diet which means no added sugars with the exception of whole fruit--which with adequate protein, some fat, and fiber maintains healthy and stable blood sugar. So that is why I focus on that rather than focusing on low low calories, I focus on feeling full for a maximum period (since I often don't get to eat at work) and getting my nutrients in (and I do monitor my general nutrient levels).
So, to a cup of plain, unflavored yogurt (2 % or whole fat--that I make myself, but Mountain High is a good brand with REAL active cultures), I might add a tbsp of flaxseed, 2 tsp of benefiber unflavored powder, 1/4 scoop of vanilla muscle milk, frozen mango and torani sugar-free mango syrup and some ice. Or sans the mango, some DaVinci sugar-free peanut butter syrup and 1 tbsp of natural (peanuts ONLY) peanut butter--Kroger's makes a pretty good one. To the latter, sometimes I'll add about 3/4 cup of frozen strawberries (no sugar added).
I've used canned pumpkin with cinnamon and other spices and a sugar-free spicy syrup of some kind and I've made blueberry, banana, orange-strawberry, watermelon, raspberry and blackberry smoothies.
That for lunch and a big salad with veggies and maybe some salmon or black beans for dinner and you've included more servings of fruits and veggies into your diet than most Americans.
You might have guessed that I don't cook a lot--soups, bean dishes, stews, and the like (Instant Pots are great) but otherwise only maybe once a week.

(16,334 posts)the Vitamix is the only blender my husband hasn't killed. I got it on sale many years ago and we use it nearly every day. Vitamix has one called a turbo something and I' m trying to find reviews about it.
Interesting video!
