(24,777 posts)Though I've really gotten into online word and mental acuity games since being laid up with a broken foot for a couple months!

(12,159 posts)I quickly learned that my expertise was more in reading the other players with a bit on how they and I played our cards.
So, no, I wont play online, as I am miserable at it.

(4,634 posts)My usual in-person shithead of a partner (whom I adore) made a snide comment about my bidding a couple weeks ago so I have been practicing on the app. I tend to underbid.

(4,400 posts)20+ years ago. It was free, no ads and offered a ton of games: spades, hearts, poker, pinochle, gin rummy, parchisi, dominoes, Wordox
Unfortunately, the software got old and the site shutdown.
I still play a solitaire version occasionally. If you find a place to play, let me know and Ill join you.

(7,529 posts)I liked an app where you could play solo, but it started freaking out so I switched to another where you have to play teams. Your partner sometimes does dumb things, costing you games. It just seems to come with the territory. If someone knows of an app where you can play as one, I'd like to know.

(4,634 posts)Its basic and straightforward. You can play solo or with a bot partner. The partners suck though and will constantly cut you.

(7,650 posts)What I do with bridge could more accurately be described as "flaying." It doesn't matter how many hands I play and how many YouTube videos I watch on playing bridge, my level of play never rises above mediocre. I tend to underbid and can't seem to break that habit. Here's the site I use.

(17,644 posts)Years ago, I used to play with and against human partners on-line, but the cheating was so rampant that it was no fun. I can't imagine that that has improved in the last 20 years.
Playing with the computers I am winning about 70% of the games, but I don't know how that stacks up. I know that the bots will make some really stupid moves, but I think that they balance out bad moves on both sides. (it doesn't stop me cussing them) My sister and her husband, back in the day, would come over and stay the night and we would play marathon spades, but they began to worship Trump, so that has passed.

(7,529 posts)People take it too seriously. And no way I would play any trumper.

(70,744 posts)A few months ago from another failed nostalgic episode for the Navy of 50 years ago, where Spades topped even poker, I tried both the bot and live versions for less than a month. The bot variety was unsatisfying in our internet era where we want live interaction, the bot canned responses ("Bad luck, you" and "Well, there goes this hand" ) were irritating. But the live-people website was CUTTHROAT! The action was very fast, no leeway for human error like a ruined Nil because of the luck of the draw. The players would drop out in mid-game at the slightest excuse and some of the members would cuss in a way that would put a Flaming mob here to shame.
