Everything else flows from that decision.

My cats are allowed anywhere they want - except - no kitchen counters or kitchen table. We made a street rescue of a sick cat 3 years ago and at first he was jumping up on both of them. I started keeping the butter in a resealable bowl so he couldn't get to it (his motivation for getting up there), yelled NO at him and tossed him off the counters/table every time I saw him there and he now stays off both.
