They stay here all year long. It was rough this past week of freezing temperatures, my friends and I trying various ways to keep the feeders unfrozen.

The Ruby throated high tail it out of here come cold weather, though I remember a story of one stuck in DC a few years ago and the efforts people made to make it safe. This story reminded me of that.

In at night that worked pretty well
You can buy heaters but they are pricey at Wild Birds

We use a small string of incandescent lights wrapped around the bottle and keep it on 24-7. It works well.

I spent all day on Christmas Eve and all of Christmas Day bringing my feeder inside to thaw it out next to a heat vent and taking it back outside again, treading oh so carefully over the ice. And was grateful I wasn’t spending Christmas trapped in an airport.
