Maybe someone known to music lovers and trivia buffs but just not exactly main stream, not lead vocalists.
Or maybe you have a favorite singer who you really love but they never made it BIG.
Mine is Merry Clayton.

Born: Margaret Nixon McEathron; February 22, 1930; Altadena, California, U.S.
Died: July 24, 2016 (aged 86); New York City, U.S.
Margaret Nixon McEathron (February 22, 1930 July 24, 2016), known professionally as Marni Nixon, was an American soprano and ghost singer for featured actresses in musical films. She is now recognized as the singing voice of leading actresses on the soundtracks of several musicals, including Deborah Kerr in The King and I, Natalie Wood in West Side Story, and Audrey Hepburn in My Fair Lady, although her roles were concealed from audiences when the films were released. Several of the songs she dubbed appeared on AFI's 100 Years...100 Songs list.
Besides her voice work in films, Nixon's career included roles of her own in film, television, opera and musicals on Broadway and elsewhere throughout the United States, performances in concerts with major symphony orchestras, and recordings.

Marni Nixon was known as a incredible performer who mainly worked and sang behind the scenes. She was the voice behind songs in many iconic films, including My Fair Lady and was considered America's most unsung singer.

Here's "Tonight" as heard in the released film, with Marni Nixon replacing all of Natalie Wood's vocal. Jim Bryant sings for Richard Beymer. Click here to hear Natalie sing the song herself: {terminated account}/div]

(3,324 posts)Has been a backup for many. Very significant artist in her own right with wide ranging skills. As I remember she comes in for a specific song or sequence of songs. Not really part of the band/s so to speak. A great and unique tone to her voice.
