A lighter look at the now deceased rock legend from a January 2022 Los Angeles Times story:
I have a confession to make. Although I write about cannabis, Ive never quite gotten the hang of rolling a proper joint. No matter how much effort I would expend, the fruits of my labor always ended up bulging oddly, jutting off at an angle or, perhaps the ultimate mark of failure, burning unevenly.
So, deep in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic, I decided to seek professional help from legendary singer, songwriter and stoner David Crosby, a man with decades of weed-smoking experience under his belt (make that behind his suspenders).
I sought out Crosby not only because hes a rocker who knows how to roll, but because over the last few years, he has earned a reputation for doling out sage advice (not just on cannabis either) via a long-running column in Rolling Stone magazine called Ask Croz as well as humorously critiquing the joint-rolling handiwork submitted for scrutiny via social media.
Although Crosbys preferred consumption method these days is a Pax vaporizer (he points out its easier on the throat and lungs of a still-working musician), he was game to give me a firsthand tutorial in the fine art of joint rolling at his home outside Santa Barbara.

(25,970 posts)I use a tray as a backstop instead of rolling in what seems like mid-air to me. Is that wrong? I finish em off like Croz, with that lightly moistened, carefully calibrated twist at the end.

(9,671 posts)when I was about 17. Took the papers home, borrowed some of Moms parsley and tried to teach myself how to roll one up. No dice.
A few months after that got high for the first time listening to Rod Stewarts Maggie May, Savoy Brown and of course, CSN. Soon after learned to properly roll one up.
RIP Mr. Crosby, you had a good run and your music was a huge part of all our lives and American culture in general.
Never could roll by hand or rolling machine. I only smoked a joint if I was with someone who could roll one. I'm a pipe lady all the way. Best pipes ever are chillums hands down.
