You dont realize it until you take your boots off back inside, and sit down. Im in the middle of a snowstorm and decided to take a first pass at the drive during a lull. Sure enough, I was halfway done when it picked back up 🤦♀️, but at least now it will be half of what it would be if Id wait until it was all over. Im grateful that it isnt near 0 with wind.
I am EXHAUSTED. I can see why they call wet, heavy snow heart attack snow. And my driveway is relatively short.
Now, Im waiting for the road plow to come around and throw it all back on my drive, LOL.
To anybody else doing this today, be careful and pace yourself.

I am glad that I only have 20' of walkway to mess with but it drifts over when there's any real amount of snow. Most of the driveway is plowed and I don't mess with my portion of the parking area because the 4Runner will clear a 1' drift. If there's more snow than that, I probably am going to stay home and reschedule anything I might have planned.
There have only been a few winters in my 6+ decades where I didn't live in the snow zone, it's just a part of life and I try to make my world include natural events as deciding factors to my plans.
It's best to get an early start on an expected accumulation, though. It keeps it manageable unless you're getting dumped on with several feet in a night type of thing. We usually have rather dry snow in my location so I get out and sweep off my porch and steps every few inches, works most of the time.
Stay warm!

(65,044 posts)It's a wet, heavy snow so the snow blower wouldn't work well anyway.
But we only got an inch & a quarter, so I just used a shovel to push it off our sidewalk, and scrape the steps.
I didn't actually have to lift & toss anything.
Only took me 3 or 4 minutes.

(470 posts)- I use a push broom. People also use leaf blowers, which I've thought about but have yet to actually try.

(23,673 posts)No snow blower, while they were just becoming available to the general public, they were pretty expensive. I don't think we got one until the late 50's. We had a Looooong driveway, Could park at least 8 cars from the front to the back where the garage was. Just north of Boston, so we had our share of heavy snowstorms. No school so my brother and I would bundle up and hit the driveway. I think we were still in elementary school. We shoveled all day long so my Dad could get into the driveway when he came home from work. If a plow was coming down the street, we'd stand at the entrance so he couldn't pile up a lot of snow there. Depending on the depth and heaviness of the snow, sometimes we made it all the way to the garage, sometimes only halfway by the time he got home. Mom kept an eye on us to make sure we didn't get too cold and made us come in for lunch and warm soup. When Dad finally got a snowblower, we no longer had to shovel the driveway

(15,540 posts)on days like today I like being out in it. It's above freezing and no wind, but the snow is coming down steadily. I like the exercise.
