with a slice of tomato. How about you? We all know we steal a slice.

(7,684 posts)I make one person pasta so ... like last night I sauteed some bacon with onion, mushroom, a few multi-colored mini peppers; when it was cooked and the pasta done, I added some grated cheddar cheese (or you could add Parm -- or Pecorino cheese) . If a bit dry, you can add some of the pasta water. Or you could go the tomato route: bacon, onion +/or garlic, tomato (from the can is fine -- or fresh or dried but soaked in hot water for a few minutes); you could keep it simple or you could add any or all: olives, capers, veggies etc. If you wanted something rich, you could add half and half toward the end (of whatever combo you ended up with) and boil it down (amongst whatever was in the pan) to make a creamy sauce. Or use a piece of cream cheese and maybe a bit of the pasta water to make a creamy sauce...
The idea is that you invent the sauce in the time it takes to cook the pasta, which I learned living one year in Florence.
Buon appetito!

(21,756 posts)It's been one of my ingredients in pasta sauce for years now. People are always surprised when I tell them there is bacon in the sauce but they love it.

(25,939 posts)especially with something like bacon, which I love so many ways. The last thing with bacon that really got my attention was bacon slaw, which was pretty much just like it sounds: freshly-cooked thick-cut bacon, shredded cabbage, dressing and spices. Ill call it my favorite until I come across something else.

(25,939 posts)I wouldnt dare ask the restaurant owner for the recipe. Besides, I just look at recipes as guidelines - not rigid instruction manuals. If I find a recipe online, chances are that Ill change at least one thing. Definitely not a by the book guy in the kitchen.

My women's church group used to throw a Christmas dinner for the residents of the YWCA. After I took that salad, I had to make it every year.
It is a really good salad.

(2,025 posts)... I don't dare eat it. It scares me. Because, with every bite, I can FEEL my arteries clogging.

(1,581 posts)Cook up a half pound of bacon, let cool, break into bits, save the fat.
next morning, using your fav muffin recipe, in place of oil or lard use the bacon grease, mix in the bacon bits and pop into the oven. Heaven. You must spread with real butter.

(50,559 posts)A wise man once put it as such: "The reason there's lettuce and tomato in a BLT is to cover up the fact there's no bacon in it." And...he's right. Three measly strips of bacon is only about half a step above no bacon whatsoever.
