(16,856 posts)When I was a kid, we drove out to Colorado and drove all over the state. We went to Royal Gorge, and my dad decided to drive across the wooden bridge made with ropes that went across the gorge. I thought we were going to die. It didn't make me more tolerant of heights.

(1,290 posts)He described crossing the Khumbu icefall. I got the impression that it was so much wider.
Width doesn't matter - it's terrifying. It was terrifying to read about and it's terrifying to see.
I highly recommend the book to anyone. No need to be interested in mountain climbing; it's gripping.
